A thrilling last-gasp victory over 10-man Aston Villa hauled West Ham out of the Premier League drop zone for the first time since late September.
Three points, two injuries, one hero: this was a mixed night for West Ham United that ended in pure joy. When injuries to Carlton Cole and Hérita Ilunga were followed by a freakish equaliser for Aston Villa, the scene seemed set for yet another promising performance to end in another disappointing result... (Times Online)
But a Zavon Hines wonder goal three minutes into injury time (->VIDEO) earned West Ham all three points against Villa tonight - and could prove to be the turning point in United's season.
The 20-year-old striker - only on the field due to Carlton Cole's first half injury - turned the Villa defence inside out before poking home the winning goal in the 93rd minute of the game to give the Hammers their first home league win of the season - and their first since winning 2-0 at Molinueux on the opening day of the season.
The young striker tormented the Villa defence throughout the second half and went close on a number of occasions before finally scoring the goal his performance had fully deserved to win the game for West Ham - a win that lifts them out of the bottom three of the table. (KUMB)
A slow burner of a game had exploded into life when Mark Noble converted a West Ham penalty on the stroke of half-time (picture: WHUFC official site).
Ashley Young saw a penalty saved by Robert Green shortly after the break, but levelled soon afterwards.
Habib Beye saw red with five minutes left before substitute Zavon Hines scored a dramatic injury-time winner. (BBC)
