Bei Englands 4:0-Erfolg über Slowakei, den die "Three Lions" in den neuen Polo Shirt-artigen "altmodischen" Leiberln komfortabel nach Hause spielten, hat Cole den "heiligen Rasen" von Wembley mit einer Leistenzerrung ("groin strain") in Minute 35 humpelnd wieder verlassen müssen (Bild: BBC/Getty).
Fresh injury scare for Cole
Carlton Cole is a major doubt for next weekend's Premier League clash against Sunderland after limping out of England's friendly with Slovakia this afternoon.
Cole - on himself as a 14th minute replacement for the injured Emile Heskey - lasted just over 20 minutes before pulling up with what appeared to be a groin strain. He was replaced moments later by Portsmouth's Peter Crouch.The news is a huge blow to Gianfranco Zola who has seen his United side struggle to score goals in Cole's recent absence; the Sunderland game would have marked his return to action after a two-match suspension.
* Matthew Upson started the game for England alongside Chelsea's John Terry in the centre of defence. The other Hammer in the squad, Rob Green, remained on the bench.

Cole seems to be definitely out on Wednesday. He’s gone back to the club. How serious the injury is hasn’t been announced yes as far as I know. He looked in a lot of pain when he went off on Saturday but initial reports indicated that may be it wasn’t too bad - whatever that means!
Eines kann ich nicht verstehen: Dass Capello Michael Owen immer noch ignoriert. Das ganze wird jetzt sogar landauf- und ab von Experten kritisiert. Ja, Owen hat seine besten Tage hinter sich, aber das hat auch Beckham. Trotzdem können beide ein Spiel entscheiden - ein Michael Owen braucht nicht sechs Torschüsse, um auf Touren zu kommen, er kann auch 10 Minuten vor Spielende eingwechselt werden. Sein Abschluss ist nach wie vor Weltklasse. Darren Bent, der nachnominiert wurde, ist sicherlich ein anständiger Stürmer, aber nicht von internationalem Niveau, wie ein engl. Journalist gestern korrekt bemerkte.
Schade, dass Cappello da so stur bleibt und Owen links liegen lässt.
The West Ham official website has confirmed that Carlton Cole will be out for six weeks. Cole's groin injury does not need surgery and he should be back for the last couple of games in West Ham's season.
